Overview
The InfiniBand™ networking components consist of the following drivers:
IPoIB: IP-over-IB (IPoIB) drivers implements the standardized IP encapsulation over InfiniBand fabrics as defined by the IETF. IPoIB RFC is currently being worked by the IETF Internet Area ipoib working group.
SDP: Sockets Direct Protocol (SDP) drivers implements the SDP protocol as defined in the InfiniBand specification Volume 1, Release 1.0a, Annex A4. SDP defines a standard wire protocol over InfiniBand fabric to support stream sockets (SOCK_STREAM) networking directly over InfiniBand Reliable Connections, and enables by-passing the TCP/IP stack in host operating system.
VNIC: The Virtual NIC (VNIC) driver enables hosts on the InfiniBand fabric to use a target I/O unit (bridge devices) to communicate with computers on IP networks (such as Ethernet) outside the InfiniBand fabric.
